MONDAY

Tonight you'll have the opportunity to work on the following.

Social Studies
a. Read Lesson 3
b. Answer these questions
  • What was the purpose of Thomas Paine's Common Sense book?
  • What risks were the colonists taking by drafting and signing the Declaration of Independence?
  • Do you think the colonists were right to declare their independence? Why or why not?
Historical Book Club
a. Work on your HBC packets weeks 1 and 2.

  1. 1. Thomas Paines book was about the Americans wanting freedom, and them having their own rules. They wanted to have their own government, than be controlled by all the rules, and takes of the British.
    2. The risks were easily getting killed by the king, and his army. They could've gotten severely punished in any way possible, because we are talking about the king here. I am almost 100% sure they would've got very angry at the colonists.
    3. Yes because then they got their own rules, and had freedom in their country. If they didn't declare independence, then the British would've controlled them. Then the king would've been even more selfish.

    1. He argued that people have the right to govern themselves than be ruled by king. This is sited on page 112.
    2. They were risking making themselves feel guilty of treason, or being disloyal to one's country. Sited on page 114
    3. I think that the colonists were right to declare their independence because I mean who would want to be ruled by king. The colonists were absolutely right in claiming their freedom, away from the king.

    What was the purpose of Thomas Paine's Common Sense book? The purpose of the book was to convince people to declare independence.
    What risks were the colonists taking by drafting and signing the Declaration of Independence? The risks were that they guilty of treason, and for that they would get hung.
    Do you think the colonists were right to declare their independence? Why or why not? YES!! I think that because if they had not fought there would be no more democracy and we would be ruled by a king.

    1. He wrote in the book and argued that people should not be ruled by King George and should be independant.
    2. The patriots would have a punishment of death from treason.
    3. I think they should have definately gone independant so they could make their own choices in life and not have to do so many things for nothing on their behalf but, the colonists only went on strike because the monarch was doing unfair things. If there was a different monarch that didn't do unfair things, then this whole war wouldn't have happened.

    3. I think it was smart because if they hadn't then Americans still might be under British control and there would be no democracy

    1) Thomas Paine's piece of propaganda was created to convince colonists that they should be independent from England.

    2) The main risk was death by treason, or a hanging. They were afraid that Britan would punish them for signing the Declaration because it would be going against their country.

    3) I think that they were definitely right!!! If a empire gets too big, they start having to tax people and treat them unfairly to stay in power. The separation helped both England and the colonies, so it was just a matter of time.

    1) There was a ample amount of snow because of the blizzard.

    2) Derpy Hooves can be very cumbersome, so when she broke the Ponyville Town Hall, it put more pressure on Applejack to win the rodeo.

    3) The moral of the story was not to brag.

    1. The booklet Common Sense, was about Americans persecution and that they were welcome to have the same possibilities such as voting.
    2. The king could have possibly been very mad because he might have disagreed with the fact of how and why the Declaration of Independence existed, the could have been hung for their guilty treason.
    3. Yes, because the world is free to everyone and no person is stronger than another, everyone is the same based on the freedom that lies on Earth.

    What risks were the colonists taking by drafting and signing the Declaration of Independence? By signing that document colonists were committing treason. The punishment for treason was death by hanging.

    Yes because they were being taxed against their will and treated unfairly. George III was abusing the rights of the colonists.
    On a daily basis I do all my homework.
