They sent a lot of papers and petitions and reacted to there no's not violently until they came over and told them what to do and them to pay there taxes. The rebelled against a lot of acts. The Boston tea party and the Boston massacre were some of the first violent rebels and also a group of people called the Sons of Liberty were tar and feathering people but that was funny not particularly violent.

    3.
No. They did a lot of things like sending petitions but Britain said no, no, no and they were just asking for a war. The Britain's were the ones who came over to make sure the were doing what they were told but the colonists did not want this so they decided to act. The colonists were just wanting to settle this peacefully but Britain wanted to be the best and would not win unless the won everything.

  8. 1. 1) Great Britain was in a huge debt, because of spending so much money on soldiers and supplies. They were protecting themselves, because the western settlers were fighting against the Indians.
    2) Then, to pay off the debt, the british had to have taxes and tariffs for different foods. There had been had acts to place taxes on different items.
    3) The Stamp act congress was a meeting of leaders from 9 colonies, and discussed the stamp act. Many colonists were mad at the Stamp Act.
    4) The colonists were so angry about the taxes, that they protested. The night of March 5, 1770, the colonists went crazy, and there was a fight. This was called "The Boston Massacre".
    5) There was a Tea act placed on the colonists, and they got angry. On December 16, 1773, the colonists dressed up as indians, and threw the tea off the boat. This was organized by Samuel Adams.
    6) There was a attacking of the British for their weapons, but the colonists warned each other. There were two battles: 1 in Lexington, and another in Concord. The americans overall won.
    7) Samuel Adams, and other leaders formed "Committees of Correspondence" in 1772. They would make decisions, and Samuel Adams came up with the idea of uniting.
    8) The congress had formed a Continental Army, with George Washington as their leader. Then, they sent a letter entitled "The Olive Branch Petition". They had sent this to King George, saying "we want more freedom".
    9) Thomas Paine wrote a book called "Common Sense" and he said people should govern themselves. His words inspired other colonists.
    10) The congress had created a committee to make a document entitle "The Declaration Of Independence". Thomas Jefferson was in charge of this document. He stated that "we should be free" and other independent subjects. This document was approved.
    11) James Otis was one of the first people to rebel against that the british should make laws for the colonists. One of them stated that "The British could go through their homes to look for illegal goods.
    12) The Declaration Of Independence was being written. There was a committee of people to edit, and write the Declaration Of Independence. This included Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams.
    2. They had rebelled against many takes including the Stamp Act, the Townshend Act and the Tea act. There had been many fights against each other about what freedom the colonists should get from the British. King George had been very stubborn about mostly all the ideas the colonists had.

    3. No because the colonists did send a letter to the king to ask to have more freedom. The British were the ones who were being stubborn. The colonists just wanted to govern themselves, and have their own rules. But, the British just had to make it harder, and sent over their rules to them. The colonists knew what they could lose in a war. But the king of England really was nuts in the head, and didn’t care.

    4. I observed that the Declaration of Independence was in very small handwriting, and its hard to see what the words were in the writing. It was also written in cursive.

    j) Committees of Correspondence
    k) First Continental Congress
    l) Second Continental Congress
    m) They wrote the Declaration of Independence

    2. They made petitions to England so they would stop passing taxes. They even made the Olive Branch Petition to stop them from war!

    3. They didn't and tried very hard, but it was the only way to get what they wanted.

    4. I found them! I felt that they were very detailed and well written, and the piece of propoganda wasn't offending Britain in any way.

    a. There are about 12-13 important ideas from Unit 5. Can you identify them starting with Lesson 1 and ending on Lesson 4?
    • The French and Indian War provided benefits to the British such as control of land, the Appalachian Mountains, with lots of resources.
    • When Britain issued the proclamation of 1763 the colonist where banned from settling into the Appalachian Mountains, this was done to keep Britain in control.
    • The Indian and French War brought dent to the British. The British decided to tax colonists to have them help to decrease the debt, because they also benefited from winning the war.
    • The Stamp Act made colonists so angry that some were deciding to protest. The Sons of Liberty thretetend and burned stamps, while other colonist protested by making speeches.
    • The Boston tea party was another big idea, this happened when colonist dressed as Mohawk Indians and took over the British ships on the Boston Harbor, their goal was to empty all of the tea into the water, they did this because of taxes on tea, they got angry because of these taxes so they once again, started 1773’s Boston Tea Party.
    • April 1775, American colonists started the fight for independence.
    • 1772, a Committee of Correspondence is formed to make decisions.
    • The First continental Congress met in Philadelphia in 1774
    • In January 1776 Thomas Paine publishes Common Sense, He argued that people had the right to govern themselves, instead of being ruled by a king.
    • July 4, 1776, Congress approved the declaration of Independence.
    • In 1175 George Washington becomes the commander of the Continental Army.
    • Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin helped writing the Declaration of Independence.

    b. Can list some things the colonists did before resorting to fighting the British?
    • The Second Continental Congress was formed in May 1775. The Congress made a final attempt to avoid war, they sent a letter called “Olive Branch Petition” to King George saying the colonist would still be loyal to Britain and war could be avoided if the colonists were give more freedom.

    c. Do you think the colonists wanted to start a war? Why or why not?
No, they tried to avoid it but the British did not want to give them independence so they felt the only way was to fight.

    d. Visit this website. Can you locate handwritten drafts of the Declaration of Independence? Yes
What do you think of these drafts? They look very old, it looks like they were written many years ago because the paper is yellowish. They are handwritten and in cursive.

  15. 1 Stamp Act, 2 Boston Tea Party 3 Boston Massacre, 4 Brittian closes the ports 5 Colonists organize to fight Britain 6 Albany congress meets 7 committee of correspondence is formed 8 Paine writes Common Sense 9 Henry speaks out against stamp act 10 George Washington becomes commander of the Army

The colonists sent a letter called the olive branch petition to the king George. The letter said that they were still loyal to Britain, and they wanted to govern themselves.

I do not think that the colonists want to start war. I think they know that if they fail they will be executed. They are trying to get King George to let them make their own decisions.

Yes I located them. I thought that they looked original because you can see the cross outs and changes and edits.
