#1. He, like everybody else has feelings specifically it would be Brave, Nervous, and very polite.
#2. I wold say that there is a lot of adventure in the book.
#3. When he moved in from the Caldwell's house he seemed to have less adventure and more of a hope and curious mood.
#4. One would be when Bud decided that he wanted to live his life running around the earth or live in a hose like everybody else.
#5. To start with Bud is related to Mr. Caldwell because Mr. Caldwell is Bud's Father.
#6. Bud is an Orphan that got adopted by a mean family called the Amoe's. On the first day at his "Home" he ran away from the horrible place. Then, he got spotted at night from a man that lured him with food to his home. All along Bud carried a suitcase with all his moms memories because she died (unlike hid dad who was still living). Inside the suitcase stood a brochure that told him a big clue of who was his father. When Bud was a the kind mans home he told the man who he thought his father was, then the man brought him to Bud's dads home…
#7. He has a very strange life that makes him very unique.
#8. I don't dislike him, but one thing I don't think he should follow to much is the danger of escaping from his home.
#9. Maybe a tile (not as good, but it will do) is, The Suitcase…?
    #10. Todd's Big Balloon Face. Pg. 13. C.

  4. Historical Fiction Book Club:
    1. Elijah can't do special tricks besides having an amazing aim at throwing rocks.
    2. Survival, survival, survival.
    3. Some white men came on horses in their area and threatened to attack the african american kids.
    4. Mrs. Holton, who is one of Elijah's neighbors, had some bad luck. Her husband died and she is technically alone with her kids. The Preacher is still acting mysterious like when he snuck Elijah to the carnival.
    4. There isn't a main antagonist but this man named Mr. Frederick Douglass who is mostly known for holding Elijah, who was the first free-born child in the settlement, in the air and being barfed on from Elijah shaking too much. Elijah is one of those calm kids who basically doesn't get very annoyed.
    5. Elijah was the first born child in Buxton, who has an enemy. Mr. Frederick Douglass is partly known for being messed up by Elijah's barf. The Preacher is one of the men in the settlement who isn't trusted from his mysterious acts. Some say he killed some white men who threatened to kidnap the african american kids.
    6. He is a peaceful boy who doesn't get aggressive to anyone/thing.
    7. I don't like how he acts like he is a slave to the adults like when he does chore-like jobs.
    8. Maybe "A Buxton Adventure"
    9.
    a. ... "Oh ho...!" then snatched out a toady-frog big as a pie pan!
    Page: 12
    b. I was 'bout to explode wanting to tell him some more 'bout the carnival...
    Page: 148
    c. There aren't any animals or rocks.
    d. There aren't any metaphors because the book is mainly in slang.

    1) Elijah is a normal person for many reasons. First of all, he has many fears. He makes plenty of mistakes, even some that are hurtful to others. For example, assuming that Mr. Leroy, a former slave, was his friend, he said something extremely racist and Mr. Leroy got extremely upset. Elijah is avery human character, and therefore, easy to connect with.

    2) The mood is very sorrowful. these people are former slaves and many either have family back in America, or their family died coming with them. For example, mrs. Holton saved 22 hundred dollars to buy her husband out of slavery, just to find out that he died because while trying to escape, he was whipped to death.

    3) As I just stated earlier, mostly when the characters mention slavery and their family back in America.

    4)
    a) Elijah needs to experience the real world and not just Buxton.
    b) Preacher may not be as trustworthy as we thought...............

    5)
Alike= Elijah and Preacher both believe in god and they are both clever.
    Differences=
Elijah: Elijah is more observant and less boastful than preacher. Also, I think that he is more trustworthy. He also is a little lazy when it comes to school.
Preacher= preacher is sly, sneaky, and very mischievous. He stole Elijah's fish and he brought Elijah with him to a carnival trying to make Elijah one of the workers there. He also id extremely boastful.

    6) Elijah, a young boy who lives in Buxton, isn't being taken seriously. His parents call him fra-gile from being afraid of hoop snakes. he doesn't really know what the world is outside of buxton, a runaway slave settlement. When Preacher is acting more mischievous than usual, how will Elijah cope with his troubles?

    7) I like that he is honest, loyal, and a true friend.

    8) I dislike that sometimes he can act without thinking and that he can be passive even though he knows what he is doing is wrong.

    9) Elijah: The First Free Boy In Buxton

    10)
    a) 'stead of sounding like it was made out of flesh and blood, it banged and pounded like it was made out of pure iron!! pg. 75
    b) You swell so much that after exactly seven and a half days the pressure i your body becomes too great and you explode like an overheated steam boiler!
    c) I had trouble finding any personifications.
    d) mostly, figurative language is hyperbole with a couple of similes.

  8. HBC:
    1. Peter is just an average boy, and goes to school, has friends, and plays. He is very normal, because he doesn't show much enthusiasm, and does't have a big personality. But, he is still unique in his own way.
    2. The mood is suspicious, and secretive, because the Norweigans are trying to sneak the gold to America, and the Germans ACT very nice, but deep down, have a master plan to destroy them.
    3. When the Germans were closing in on Lovisa, at the farm, the mood was changed to very clear, and not so secretive.
    4. Well, when Peter got taken away to the barracks, Jan had to rescue him, with out being caught. When the German soldier who Jan is, was missing, the Germans were very close to finding the gold, after kicking the snow, where the gold was hidden.
    5. Peter, and the Commandant are alike because they both have a goal, and are like the leaders, because Peter is the leader of the kids bringing gold, and the commandant is the leader of the German army, at Norway. They are unlike each other because one of them wants to save their country, and the other just wants more control/power over people.
    6. Peter, a 12 year old boy, is trying to save his country from the Nazis. All the kids will chip in, and pay the price. They have to get all the gold over to America, without getting caught. A few times they almost get busted, but manage to slip away. Uncle Victor is the creator of the plan, and has a new person aboard, a pole. Then, it was a hard task, but manage to have all the gold safe, with Peter.
    7. I like Peter because he is supportive to his family, and works very hard. He is a good leader, but also a good friend. He doesn't back down, when a challenge is near.
    8. I dislike Peter, because honestly, I would think he is a little boring, and a tiny bit bossy. Thats pretty much all.
    9. Another title could be "Gold: Effective to All".
    10. a- "He acted as if I could just give it to him, by being there". Pg. 112 b- "What if they threaten to pull our tongues if we don't tell?". Pg. 49 c- The windows of the houses had shaggy white eyebrows. Pg. 93 d- Over a thousand miles, and not a light. Pg. 37

Bud is a normal person because he gets angry, upset, and cries.
The general mood for our book is a kinda a misty and dreary mood.
The mood changes when Bud cries and Mrs. Thomas carries him like a little baby.
The two main conflicts are Bud trying to make Mr. Herman E. Calloway to be his dad and trying to hide and to not be noticed.
Bud and Mr. Herman E. Calloway are alike because they both have a weak spot and they are different because Bud is alone and Mr. Herman E. Calloway is not alone.
A boy named Bud lost his mom at a young age and he went to the Amoes to live and then Bud escaped. Now he is on his journey to find his dad or what he thinks is his dad Mr. Herman E. Calloway.
I like Bud because he is brave and will not tolerate any nonsense.
