service learning project

Tonight you'll get the opportunity to answer these questions with a guardian.

Service Learning Project - we're to do a simple, low-key SLP for our class. We brainstormed some ideas on Tuesday. I'd like to continue to this discussion.

HOW CAN WE HELP OUR LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY FOR OUR SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT?

SLP Requirements

  • What Academic content will be involved?
  • 1 time or ongoing project?
  • What will be the active participation for all students?
  • How will it promote civic responsibility?
  • What type of reflection would take place after the project?

  1. SLP Requirements

We can collect towels and blankets or raise money to buy them and give them to the Humane Society. We will need to use math to find out how much money we need.
It will be an on going project.
Everyone will help collect the blankets and raise money.
It will help animals to feel more relaxed in the shelter.
We will feel good about ourselves because we helped animals in need.

    1. We will learn to help the community instead of just helping ourselves.
    2. We think it should be ongoing because we learn that helping the community isn't just a one time thing.
    3. We could find a way to earn money and then use it to buy gifts for foster children.
    4. Well, we will be helping foster children that usually have a gloomy day.
    5. We would feel good that we did a good thing to help kids in need of happiness.

We could make beds for the animals
    1. Math for measuring out the beds and we have to know how much materials we need to buy for the beds and how much it would cost
    2. Probably one time
    3. Each student will design and make a bed at the same time
    4. It will help us realize that animals are part of the community too and we need to help them
    5. We could write a story about an animal that might lie in the bed and we could review how well the project turned out
