Historical Fiction Book

Tonight you'll have a chance to talk about your book.

Directions-answer these questions below. Please don't copy each other.

1. Use details from the book that describes the setting.
2. How is the main character described in the book?

  1. 1. They are in Seoul, Korea 1473 and the two boys are on a hill.
    2. The older brother is Kee-sup and he is kind to his little brother Young-sup and he is patient
    3. The conflict is they try to make a kite fly that they got for their birthday but it wouldn't fly so they decided to make their own and after a while Kee-sups kite finally flew when Young-sup's kite didn't fly at all and they went home to make Young-sup a new kite.
    4. The summary is they are trying to fly a kite and it wont work so they decide to make their own and work together but Young-sup won't listen to his brother so his kite was bad and wouldn't fly so when they had to go back to their house Young-sup asked his brother if he would help him make him a kite and Kee-sup said "no I won't make one for you but I will help build one with but you have to listen this time".

    2. How is the main character described in the book?
    Elijah is the main character. He hasn't been described yet, but I am assuming he is black because it says he is the first person in his village to be born free, and there is a picture of a black boy on the cover.
    3. What is the conflict of the book so far?
    Cooter, and Elijah have discovered that immigrants have brought hoop snakes to the town, and now if they are bitten, then they will explode after seven days, then die of starvation after another seven days, because all the food will drop through the hole of their body.
    4. Give a 3-4 summary of the book. Talk about main events up to the point where you stopped reading.
    The boys and the preacher discover these snakes. The preacher tells them to shoot him if he gets bitten. And Elijah runs home and gets scolded for yelling, listening to "Lies" and talking about the mommas fear. Toads

  4. 1. The hill that marks the grazing land is brown and wet and is 100 miles from the boarding school
    2. Short but heart is large, and wearing finest clothing
    3. He is trying to get to High school and he makes it but now he has to try to fit in with the white people
    4. He was taken away from his family to go to the mission school. He learns that it is a crime to talk in Navajo and then he become the top student and makes it to High School which is an accomplishment and then he writes a paper about the Japanese crisis and then is very interested in the topic

    1a.Ruts in the road ( wagon on the road)
    1b. A white board with curved black marks on it (inside a classroom)

    2.How is the main character described in the book?
    Kii Yazhi,the main character, is always being referred to as a girl in his family

    3.The Conflict in the story so far is that all the children from the Navajo region just got their hair cut off and are dealing with very mean teachers in their new boarding school.

    4.So there is a little boy named Kii Yazhi is being transferred to a boarding school along side with all the other little Navajo children to a boarding school to learn the ways of the white people before the big war hits their home town.

    7. Along the way there are words that the Navajo made up as code name for real words in case they need to use their code in the war.

  6. 1. In Norway, there are only 2 months where it isn't snowing. There are layers of snow, and frozen lakes and puddles. There are kids with a whole bunch of layers on, skiing, sledding, or having snowball fights.
    2. Peter is described as feeling grown at 12 years old, he has yellow hair, and his wide brown eye, and the rest of his face that only show.
    3. The Nazis have taken over Poland, and so his Uncle Victor is in Norway, but not speaking to Peter, or the rest of his family. (Mrs. Lundstrom, Mr Lundstrom, and his sister Lovisa.
    4. Peter, Lovisa, Helga, and Michael all had a snowball fight: Boys vs. Girls. Then, they saw Uncle Victor, and found out he came to Norway because of the Nazis. Then, Mr. Lundsrtom doesn't want the Nazis to touch any of the gold, which is $9,000,000,000 in the U.S. He is determined to keep the money safe.

  7. 1. The book is set in an orphanage.
    2. Bud - is a 10 year old boy, who’s mother is dead, and he does not know his father.
    3. Bud is being moved to a Foster Home.
    4. Bud is moving away to a Foster Home. He is helping his friend, to feel better about moving. He is remembering his Mom. He is also wondering who his father might be.

    Keesup is helpful his other brother Young sup

    Young sup’s kite did not fly as well he wanted it to and this made him upset.

    Two brothers went kite flying on a mountain. They wanted to test their hand made kites. They decided to make a new kite because the other one was ripped by rocks and sticks. They patched up the torn kite and they attempted to make a new one together. Young Sup taught Kee Sup how to fly a kite. This is ironic because the little brother is teaching the older brother kite flying techniques.
